Janice McCracken, the Founder and CEO of the Power of Pink Foundation, said she started the charity because she wanted to put donations directly into the hands of those fighting breast cancer. "It's going into the hands of the women that need the money to pay for the gas bill, the deductibles that aren't met, anything that they need," she said. Every year the foundation selects as many women as they can to receive money for whatever expenses they may need help with as they continue to battle the disease.
Over the past eight years the Power of Pink has raised more than $134,890 for 25 local woman battling breast cancer. McCracken said this year the women are mostly from Missouri, but in years past women from the four-state area have been selected. "I have a lady from Springfield, I have a lady from Verona, I have a lady from Neosho," McCracken said, talking about where the 2019 recipients are from. There are also four other recipients from St. Louis, Exeter, Branson and Springdale, Arkansas.
